PASCAL WYSE

Pascal is a composer, sound designer and trombonist whose work can be heard in podcasting, film, radio, VR and theatre – for the Guardian, BBC, Channel 4, BFI, Royal Court, Lyric Theatre, Touch, Venice Biennale, Chalk & Blade, Audible, Pushkin Industries and others.

Born in East Yorkshire, from the age of seven he struggled to school with a trombone case the size of a coffin. Later he studied music at York University and the Guildhall School in London.

Pascal created a column for the Guardian newspaper called We’re Jamming, in which he interviewed and played with all kinds of musicians, including Buzzcocks, Roots Manuva, Coldcut, Alabama 3, Chas & Dave, Django Bates and Matmos. Having also written and produced short films and animations with Joe Berger (as Berger & Wyse), including the BAFTA and RTS nominated Hustle title sequence, he is passionate about how music and sound can help tell a story.

As a field recordist he has had the good fortune to record in locations as far afield as the Galapagos, the Antarctic and underwater with humpback whales in the Dominican Republic. He has also recorded the inside of a dead pig’s head.

"Pascal Wyse is a sonic genius, a true original, and a delight to work with. I am very lucky to count him as a colleague.”
Tim Harford, author, columnist and creator of Cautionary Tales podcast

"If I were Tim Harford, I would never speak anywhere in public again without Pascal Wyse.”
Malcolm Gladwell, author and journalist, head of Pushkin Industries

“Pascal Wyse created the most beautiful sound world for one of my narratives that I can recall – poignant, elegiac – and yet curiously, beautifully … brutal …”
Will Self
